Daniel here. When I bought my lot, I thought: “Why pay an architect 100k? I have Pinterest.” “I have Sims 4.” “I can draw on a napkin.”
Honestly, I tried to skip it. Thought about buying a stock plan online for $50.
1. The Rules Subdivisions here are strict. Setbacks. Roof colors. Maximum height. My “dream design” violated about 5 rules immediately.
2. The Sun I wanted big windows facing West (for the sunset, right?). Architect pointed out: “Sir, your house will be an oven from 2pm to 5pm.” Oh. Right. Philippines sun is not friendly.
3. The Slope My lot isn’t flat. Stock plans assume the world is flat. If you put a flat house plan on a sloped lot, you pay extra for foundations. A LOT extra.

Then sure. Use a draftsman. Save the money.
I hired one. Cost me money upfront. Saved me money on cooling bills (better airflow). Saved me money on foundation mistakes.
Plus… he knew how to get the building permit signed. That alone was worth the fee.
idk, up to you. But a bad design is expensive to live in.
