Imagine building a house out of giant styrofoam Lego blocks. Then you put steel bars inside. Then you fill the hollow space with concrete. That’s ICF (Insulated Concrete Forms).
It sounds crazy, but the styrofoam stays on the wall forever. 1. It’s Cool (Literally). You have insulation on the outside AND inside. It’s like living inside an ice chest. Your AC bill drops by 50%.
2. It’s Tough. Inside that foam is solid reinforced concrete. Typhoon winds? They bounce off. Earthquakes? It’s solid concrete.
It’s expensive. About 40% more than hollow blocks. And finding a contractor in the Philippines who knows how to do it? Good luck. If they mess up the pour, the foam blows out and you have concrete all over your garden.
1. EPS (Styrofoam) - The standard. Cheap, effective. 2. Comparisons - Honestly, just stick to standard EPS blocks available locally. Importing specialized polyurethane forms will bankrupt you.
If you hate heat and have money? Go ICF. If you are on a budget? Stick to hollow blocks (but insulate your roof!).
