Fluorocarbon Window Coating (Is it a scam?)

Powder Coating vs Fluorocarbon (PVDF)

Your contractor says: “Sir, upgrade to Fluorocarbon. It’s better.” It costs 15% more. Is he trying to rip you off? Actually… no.

The Philippine Sun Problem

Regular “Powder Coating” is basically plastic dust baked onto aluminum. It’s fine for indoors. But in the Philippines? UV index 12? It chalks. In 5 years, your black windows will turn grey. Your white windows will turn yellow.

What is Fluorocarbon?

It’s the stuff they put on skyscrapers. “PVDF” (Polyvinylidene Fluoride). Strong chemical bonds. It doesn’t fade. It withstands salt (if you are near the beach).

The Math

Option A: Powder Coating Cost: ₱100k Life: 7 years Repainting cost: Nightmare. You can’t just spray paint aluminum frames easily.

Option B: Fluorocarbon Cost: ₱115k Life: 20 years Fade: Almost zero.

My Advice

If you are building a rental house? Maybe save the money. If this is your “Forever Home”? Pay the extra 15%. You will hate yourself in 2030 if you don’t. Just make sure the supplier isn’t lying. Ask for the warranty paper. If they can’t give a 15-year color warranty… it’s not real Fluorocarbon.
